We have lived in Bering House for nearly forty years. Renate originally came from a little village called Kirchlengern near Hanover in Germany. Bering was her family name and we chose her village coat of arms as our logo. She arrived in England first working as an au pair and then as an interpreter for the Tourist Board taking part in Shows, Seminars and Boat Shows both in England and Germany. Having met and married John, an engineer, Renate gave up her work and channelled her energies in to creating a special luxury b and b.

Renate transformed two bedrooms of the secluded family home into elegant en suite guest rooms providing luxury b and b. She successfully took up upholstery, curtain making and furniture restoration. When the basic work was done she scoured antique shops for the extras – good quality pictures, decanter and glasses etc.

None of this would have happened without the help and support of her skilled and practical husband, John, and her shipwright brother-in-law, Roy, who both gave Renate the possibility to achieve that professional finish that lifts the rooms out of the ordinary. John’s work had to be fitted in to spare moments between trips abroad for the Company.

As a Poole man John has a wealth of knowledge of Dorset. A keen tennis player and sailor. His love for the water has been part of his life both in sailing and fishing. He was able to reach his goal of owning a yacht and smaller boats including a laser, perfect for him to have exhilarating sails in the Harbour.
